KTM Shelves Plans for Additional Satellite Team in MotoGP, Aims for Optimal Performance with Four Bikes
KTM clarifies its strategy to add another satellite team
Previously, KTM made efforts to onboard an additional satellite team. Here's their updated approach…
KTM has ceased efforts to introduce an additional satellite team into the MotoGP lineup.
Last year, the Austrian company made it clear that they aimed to increase their lineup to six motorcycles.
In addition to their official team and the Tech3 GASGAS collaboration, KTM aimed to incorporate another satellite team into their lineup.
The strategy has since been altered.
In response to whether expanding the team remained an objective, KTM's motorsports director, Pit Beirer, informed Motorsport-Magazin, "No, we've dismissed that idea."
"We made an immense effort to accomplish this."
This occurred due to a regrettable contractual circumstance, a fact that is widely acknowledged.
Upon further examination, it has been concluded that a total of four bikes is the ideal quantity for our needs.
"Having only two might fall short, while going up to six might exceed what's necessary."
Initially, you must oversee six bikes along with their six respective riders.
"This is the reason we are now aiming to offer complete support to four drivers."
"We're working on enhancing the motorcycle further to achieve the final improvement that's yet to be accomplished."
In the previous year, KTM engaged in discussions with RNF Aprilia, Gresini Ducati, and LCR Honda regarding potential recruitment.
The discussions reached an impasse almost immediately.
KTM approached Dorna to discuss the possibility of expanding their number of motorcycles, expressing willingness to support a team managed by Aki Ajo with just one rider.
None of those strategies materialized this year.
KTM's factory team features riders Brad Binder and Jack Miller, while Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez are part of the Tech3 GASGAS initiative.
Pol Espargaro and Dani Pedrosa form their skilled duo of test riders.
This year, the focus within the satellite racing team landscape is primarily on Yamaha and Ducati.
Yamaha has engaged in talks with VR46 and Pramac to increase their lineup from two to four motorcycles by 2025.
VR46 has closed its doors, while Pramac is still in the process of deciding whether to stick with Ducati or switch to Yamaha.
