Kompakt-SUVs im Vergleich: Renault Captur und VW T-Cross im Duell der Philosophien

Renault Captur vs. VW T-Cross: The Showdown in the B-SUV Segment

Each contender impresses with its compact size while offering ample space…

The Renault Captur and the VW T-Cross represent the B-SUV category but follow different design and technology principles. The Captur leans towards a more eccentric and tech-forward approach, while the T-Cross takes on a more traditional stance. Both SUVs have recently undergone updates and have gained popularity in Germany for their practicality and relatively affordable pricing. Isn't it about time we compared these two models?

Styling and Size

The styling of the Captur incorporates graphic elements influenced by both the Clio and the new Rafale. The front end, in particular, with its vertical LED headlights, borrows heavily from the smaller Renault model, while the streamlined grille echoes the Rafale. Overall, the shapes are more angular compared to the previous model, but the length remains at 4.23 meters. Additionally, there's an introduction of new alloy wheels, now available in a 19-inch size.

The latest facelift of the T-Cross introduces front LED headlights and rear LED lights, accompanied by a completely redesigned grille that takes cues from its larger counterpart, the T-Roc. The vehicle has been stretched by 27 millimeters, now measuring a total length of 4.14 meters. Volkswagen's body design now leans more towards an off-road look, featuring gray panels at the front and back that mimic">kid plates. The update also includes new alloy wheels and fresh paint options.

Interior and Trunk Space

The Captur's cabin has a rather stylish appearance. The standout feature is the upright 10.4-inch screen which showcases the OpenR Link infotainment system, it operates on Android Automotive 12 OS. This is complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that displays driving data and navigation maps. The upholstery options vary significantly with different trim levels.

The package includes 28 driver assistance features, among which is an adaptive cruise control. The trunk has a minimum capacity of 616 liters, expandable to a maximum of 1,596 liters by sliding the back seat forward and folding down the seats.

Inside the T-Cross, there's a horizontal screen that spans up to 10 inches in the Style and R-Line trims. Additionally, the vehicle features a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster. The dashboard design leans towards the traditional, equipped with tangible climate control buttons situated on a glossy black panel in front of the gear selector.

The vehicle comes equipped with a Travel Assist feature, which includes an adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and an automatic stop-and-go function for models fitted with an automatic transmission.

The T-Cross optimizes its dimensions to offer a generous storage space. It starts with a minimum cargo capacity of 385 liters, which can increase to 455 liters by adjusting the rear seat 140 millimeters forward, and can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 1,281 liters.

Renault boasts a diverse range of engines, available in LPG, mild-hybrid petrol, and full-hybrid petrol variants. For starters, they offer a 1.0 turbo petrol engine that delivers either 91 horsepower on petrol or 100 horsepower on LPG. The electrified mild-hybrid versions are powered by a 1.3 engine, providing 143 and 158 horsepower options. Meanwhile, the full-hybrid system pairs with a 1.6 engine to produce 143 horsepower.

The 95 horsepower model pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the 115 horsepower version can be matched with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The highest-powered version, with 150 horsepower, comes only with the 7-speed automatic.

Neither of the two models in the lineup features all-wheel drive, by the way.
