Jos Verstappen’s Warnings Begin to Materialize Amid Ongoing Feud with Christian Horner
"Jos Verstappen reiterates his concerns, escalating his dispute with Red Bull's team leader Christian Horner."
Jos Verstappen has persisted in his disagreement with Red Bull F1 team's chief, Christian Horner, stating that his earlier cautions are beginning to materialize.
The dispute originated when Verstappen Sr. suggested that the scandal involving Horner could lead to divisions within Red Bull, following accusations against the 50-year-old of sexual harassment and manipulative, domineering actions.
Horner, consistently refuting the accusations, was exonerated following an internal probe by Red Bull examining the allegations. The appeal lodged by the woman who had raised complaints about Horner's conduct was rejected in August, following the investigation's conclusion.
Over the next few months, Red Bull has faced significant upheaval with the exits of key personnel including chief technical officer Adrian Newey, sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, and head of strategy Will Courtenay.
At the East Belgian Rally, in a conversation with Motorsport, Max Verstappen's father expressed that the recent happenings were precisely what he had concerns about at the start of the year.
"Indeed, this is the situation I cautioned against," Verstappen remarked. "The team then responds, 'No worries, we have another person [to fill that role].'
"However, there's a growing number of individuals departing now. Max is constantly queried about this issue every time and so forth. So, indeed, I believe the current situation is quite unfavorable."
Verstappen Sr, who canceled his participation in a scheduled historic parade at the Austrian Grand Prix upon discovering Horner's attempt to prevent his involvement, further stated: "He [Horner] consistently downplays it."
Red Bull's recent track record has faltered, as they've relinquished the top spot in the constructors' championship to a revitalized McLaren. With six races left, McLaren now leads Red Bull by 41 points.
Having secured seven wins in the first 10 races, the three-time world champion Verstappen has gone through an eight-race stretch without a victory, during which his lead in the championship has shrunk to 52 points, overtaken by Lando Norris.
