Jos Verstappen Criticizes FIA’s ‘Ridiculous’ Penalty on Max for Swearing Incident: Questions Impact on Future in F1
Jos Verstappen blasts the FIA for the 'absurd' penalty given to his son Max over F1 profanity incident.
Jos Verstappen has expressed strong criticism towards Formula 1's regulatory authority over the sanctions imposed on his son, Max Verstappen, for using profane language during an official FIA press conference.
Three-time world champion Verstappen has received a form of community service as a penalty for his use of a swear word to criticize his Red Bull's recent performance at a press conference held before the Singapore Grand Prix on Thursday.
During his appearance at the East Belgian Rally, Verstappen Sr expressed to Motorsport that he considers the penalty to be "absolutely absurd."
"The ex-Grand Prix racer commented, "I find that utterly absurd." He added, "This is something we witness in rally racing as well."
"I'm not impressed with how the FIA is performing. However, I prefer not to delve too deeply into the matter!"
In Singapore on Saturday, during the post-qualifying press conference, Verstappen expressed his dissent against the penalty he received by mainly giving a "no comment" reply to numerous inquiries.
The man from the Netherlands opted to address the media outside the formal FIA briefing area within the racing circuit.
During Sunday's post-race press conference, Verstappen provided more detailed responses than usual, followed by an additional briefing for the media present in the paddock.
He acknowledged that the penalty had made him reevaluate his future in Formula 1.
"Absolutely. Certainly, factors like these also influence decisions regarding what lies ahead for me," Verstappen confirmed in response to inquiries about whether such aspects would affect his future choices.
"Facing situations where expressing my true self isn't an option becomes quite trivial. Currently, in my professional journey, I'm at a point where constantly addressing such issues is something I wish to avoid. It's genuinely exhausting."
Certainly, achieving victories and securing wins is wonderful, but after reaching those milestones, including clinching championships and races, the focus often shifts towards simply enjoying the experience.
"Every participant is giving it their all, striving to the utmost, regardless of their position in the race. However, facing such trivial matters is not, in my opinion, a viable way to persist in this sport, that much is certain."
