Jos Verstappen Blasts FIA’s ‘Ridiculous’ Penalty on Max Verstappen for Swearing Incident
Jos Verstappen condemns the 'absurd' F1 profanity fine imposed on his son
Jos Verstappen expresses disapproval of the FIA's disciplinary action against his son, Max Verstappen, following an F1 swearing incident.
Jos Verstappen has expressed strong disapproval toward Formula 1's regulatory organization over the sanctions imposed on his son, Max Verstappen, for using profane language during an official FIA press conference.
Triple world titleholder Verstappen has received a form of community service penalty for uttering a swear word while critiquing his Red Bull's recent showing at the press briefing preceding the Singapore Grand Prix on Thursday.
During an interview at the East Belgian Rally, Verstappen Sr expressed to Motorsport that he believes the penalty to be "utterly absurd."
"The ex-Formula One racer expressed, “That’s utterly absurd. However, we witness it in rally racing as well.
"I'm not convinced the FIA is performing well. However, I'll refrain from elaborating on the subject!"
In Singapore, during the post-qualifying press conference on Saturday, Verstappen expressed his dissent towards his penalty by predominantly responding with "no comment" to the majority of inquiries.
The man from the Netherlands chose to address the media outside the designated press conference area set by the FIA, located in the paddock.
Verstappen offered more detailed responses during Sunday's post-race press conference and then held an additional session for the media present in the paddock.
He acknowledged that the penalty had made him rethink his future in Formula 1.
"Absolutely. Indeed. Such factors certainly influence my future decisions too," Verstappen responded when inquired whether these elements would factor into his future choices.
"Dealing with such trivial matters becomes inevitable when you're unable to express your true self. At this point in my career, I find it exhausting to constantly face these issues; I'd much rather not have to."
Certainly, achieving victory and winning races is fantastic, but after you've reached those milestones, securing championships and victories, the focus shifts to simply enjoying the experience.
"Every participant is giving their all, even those trailing behind. However, dealing with such trivial matters is certainly not my idea of how to persevere in the sport."
