### “Jos Verstappen Blasts FIA Over ‘Ridiculous’ Swearing Penalty for Son Max
Jos Verstappen criticizes the FIA's decision to penalize his son, Max Verstappen, for using offensive language in Formula 1.
Jos Verstappen has criticized Formula 1's governing body over the penalty given to his son Max Verstappen for using profanity during an official FIA press conference.
Max Verstappen, a three-time world champion, has been given a community service order for using offensive language to describe the recent performance of his Red Bull car during a press conference on Thursday ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.
During his appearance at the East Belgian Rally, Verstappen Sr expressed to Motorsport that he believed the penalty was "utterly absurd".
The ex-grand prix driver remarked, "I find that absolutely absurd. However, it's something we also observe in rally racing."
"I believe the FIA could improve its performance, but I'd rather not elaborate on that!"
Max Verstappen expressed his discontent with his penalty by mostly responding with "no comment" to questions during the post-qualifying press conference in Singapore on Saturday.
Rather than attending the official FIA press conference in the paddock, the Dutchman opted to speak to journalists outside.
During Sunday’s post-race press conference, Verstappen provided more detailed responses than usual. He then had an additional session with the attending journalists in the paddock.
He confessed that the penalty made him rethink his future in Formula 1.
"Absolutely. Yes, these factors certainly influence my future,” Verstappen responded when questioned about whether these elements would affect his future decisions.
"When you're unable to be true to yourself, you end up facing these kinds of trivial issues. I'm at a point in my career where I don't want to be constantly handling this. It's genuinely exhausting."
Certainly, achieving success and winning races is fantastic. However, after reaching those milestones and securing championships and victories, you also start to value simply enjoying yourself.
"All the competitors are giving their all, even those who are trailing behind. However, having to handle these trivial issues makes it clear to me that this isn't a sustainable way to stay involved in the sport."
