Jorge Martin Triumphs in Misano MotoGP Sprint: An “Incredible” Launch to Victory
Jorge Martin describes his remarkable start at the Misano MotoGP: "I took off before the rest had even begun moving."
He commented, "The initial move was solid, but what really stood out was the reaction time."
Pramac Ducati's Jorge Martin described his start in the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix sprint race as if "the others hadn't begun yet," highlighting the superior launch he had on his way to winning the event.
Martin faced a challenging qualifying session at Misano on Saturday morning, securing only a fourth-place finish, while his main competitor for the title, Francesco Bagnaia, clinched the pole position with an impressive run.
In the 13-lap dash, Martin surged from fourth place to the lead at Turn 1, maintaining his position until the end of the race, finishing 1.495 seconds ahead of Bagnaia.
Martin's victory, his initial sprint triumph since the German Grand Prix in July, has propelled him 26 points ahead in the rankings.
After the event, Martin mentioned his response to the lights, as opposed to his initial move, stood out to him the most, making him feel "really comfortable, really confident" while in the lead.
"Indeed, it's always a great feeling to come out on top," he remarked on Saturday afternoon.
"This is the paramount aspect. I'm glad I put in my utmost effort."
"Thus, I will make the same effort tomorrow. Should it turn out to be a second attempt, my joy will match today's. However, my aim remains unchanged: to achieve victory, and I'll put forth my utmost effort to do so."
"The beginning was fantastic. I believe the response was extraordinary, surpassing the initial phase.
"The beginning was promising, and the response was remarkable. I noticed the others hadn't begun their movements, and I was already significantly ahead."
"Subsequently, I noticed Pecco slowing down sooner than expected, so I seized the opportunity and everything unfolded flawlessly."
"Following that, being in the lead was quite natural for me; I felt at ease and confident. Riding solo has always been my thing, so the situation felt typical."
Martin's victory in the sprint surprised many who had anticipated Bagnaia to lead and secure the win at Misano on Saturday, especially after his commanding performance in securing pole position.
The outcome has ensured that Martin will be at the top of the championship standings after the San Marino GP, regardless of Sunday's events.
When questioned whether his victory served as a psychological setback for his opponent, he responded, "I'm not sure. That doesn't concern me much. My focus is more on what I've previously mentioned, about putting forth my utmost effort and being content with whatever I am able to achieve."
The tire selection for Sunday's major race is still undecided, with both the medium and the soft alternatives appearing to be practical for the entire length of the event.
Martin showcased remarkable performance on both track layouts during Friday's practice sessions and is optimistic about his chances of contending for a win on either.
"He believes that the tire selection for Sunday won’t be vital," he commented.
"I believe it's going to be challenging. Both sets of tires could lead to a win, so it'll definitely be intriguing tonight to figure it out."
"However, I feel quite at ease as well because I believe I possess the capability on both soft and medium."
