Jorge Martin Shines in Le Mans Practice as Marquez and Binder Head to Q1 – Quartararo Secures Q2 Spot Amidst Home Crowd Cheer

Title: Jorge Martin secures first place in both Friday practice sessions for the French MotoGP under the Le Mans sunshine, as Marc Marquez and Brad Binder fail to crack the top ten, setting them up for Qualifying 1.

However, this setback turned into a boon for local hero Fabio Quartararo, as the Yamaha competitor secured his spot in Qualifying 2 directly, much to the fans' excitement.

Martin, the early leader, regained his position at the forefront during the final 20 minutes of the afternoon session, which was marked by fresh tyre speed trials.

Fabio di Giannantonio surged ahead, leading the pack by nearly half a second as the final ten minutes of the Jerez test drew near, marking him as the quickest participant.

However, Martin reclaimed the lead in the final moments, crossing the finish line with a 0.145-second lead over the current world champion Francesco Bagnaia, while newcomer Pedro Acosta secured a solid third place for the local Tech3 squad.

Maverick Vinales assisted in overcoming Aprilia's disappointing weekend in Jerez by securing fourth place, followed by di Giannantonio, KTM's Jack Miller, and Aleix Espargaro on the other factory RS-GP.

Marc Marquez took a tumble in the early moments of the session, experiencing a lowside crash at Turn 12, and found himself at risk of entering Qualifying 1 as the session neared its conclusion.

Marquez experienced a significant wobble that relegated him to 15th position, before he managed to claw his way back up to 12th. In the nick of time, the eight-time world champion managed to start his last lap, impressively recording the fastest time in the first sector. However, a misjudgment saw him veer off course, marking his inaugural Q1 qualification as a rider for Ducati.

Binder from KTM, who experienced his second and third crashes of the day at the narrow last right turns, will be joining Marquez.

Enea Bastianini, the victor of 2022, experienced a crash towards the end, whereas Franco Morbidelli managed to maintain his composure while navigating through the gravel at turn one at high speed.

Jorge Martin makes an impeccable comeback from his Jerez mistake, topping the first practice session at the 2024 French MotoGP in Le Mans, followed by newcomer Pedro Acosta and Aprilia racer Maverick Vinales.

Coming off an exciting win against Francesco Bagnaia at Jerez, Marc Marquez led the way for the initial 45 minutes of the session.

Victor of the 2022 Le Mans, Enea Bastianini, who is widely rumored to be replaced by Marquez on the factory team next season, advanced to the front before Acosta thrilled the local supporters of Tech3 by posting the fastest time on his GASGAS bike in the last ten minutes.

The young Spaniard quickly retaliated when the current champion and victor at Jerez, Francesco Bagnaia, along with Bastianini, advanced past him again.

However, Acosta, despite recovering from an early mishap, was unable to match the speed of championship frontrunner Jorge Martin after installing fresh tires, with the Pramac racer pulling ahead by 0.237 seconds towards the end.

At the conclusion, alongside Martin who also switched to fresh tires, were Vinales, Alex Marquez, Aleix Espargaro, Alex Rins, Raul Fernandez, and Miguel Oliveira.

Brad Binder suffered a crash in the last minute, causing significant damage to his KTM.

Due to yellow flags triggered by the incident, Alex Marquez's top lap time was invalidated. Despite this, he managed to end up three positions higher than his brother Marc. Marc opted to continue using worn tires and appeared to be testing an alternate configuration on one of his Gresini bikes.

Marco Bezzecchi, who clinched victory at Le Mans last year, initially posted some of the fastest times before ending up in tenth place for VR46.

Rins led the Yamaha pack, finishing 13th, while local favorite Johann Zarco was the highest-placed Honda rider, coming in 16th.

Fabio Quartararo, Rins' teammate, tested the extended Yamaha exhaust once more, finding himself in 20th position at the beginning of his home race. Additionally, the ex-world champion had access to a newly developed chassis from the Jerez trials.
