**”Jorge Martin Proclaims Dominance in MotoGP: ‘I’m the Best Rider and the Numbers Show It'”**
Jorge Martin: "I’m the top rider" in MotoGP "and the statistics prove it"
The current championship frontrunner believes he stands out among the 2024 contenders
MotoGP points leader Jorge Martin is confident that he is currently "the best rider out there," but admits he still needs to "refine some aspects."
Martin secured second place in last season's championship behind Francesco Bagnaia and has been leading the 2024 points standings for the majority of the season.
Following a catastrophic performance at the San Marino Grand Prix, his lead shrank dramatically from 26 points to just seven. This was due to a risky strategy in unpredictable weather that caused him to fall a lap behind and finish in 15th place.
During a conversation with DAZN before the Misano round last weekend, Martin was questioned about who he considered the top rider on the current grid.
"It's really challenging," Martin started.
"What does it mean to be the top rider? It's quite unclear and really challenging to define."
"Among those competing, the four of us, including the Ducati riders Pecco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, Enea Bastianini, and myself, are definitely leading the pack."
"Right now, it might come off as conceited, but I believe I'm the top rider."
“I must continuously refine my skills, put in the effort, and make improvements. If I don’t, in just six months, my performance could drop from being the best to being eighth.”
"I believe I am the quickest, and the statistics back me up; it's not just my opinion."
This season, Martin has achieved the highest number of pole positions, securing five. In comparison, Bagnaia has attained two poles, Bastianini and Maverick Vinales have each earned one, while Aleix Espargaro and Marc Marquez have both clinched two.
He holds the record for the most sprint victories with four, just one more than his main competitor Bagnaia, after 13 rounds of the 2024 season.
In terms of grand prix wins, Martin has secured just two compared to Bagnaia's seven. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez equaled the Pramac rider's total with his recent victory at the San Marino GP.
Martin has largely maintained his lead in the championship due to his consistent performance, with only three instances in 2024 where he did not earn any points.
In the same interview with DAZN, Martin confessed that he 'felt like a fool' when Ducati decided to reverse its choice to elevate him to the factory team, opting instead for Marquez.
In 2025, Martin is set to become part of the Aprilia factory team, teaming up with Marco Bezzecchi. Meanwhile, Pramac Racing will move away from using Ducati bikes and will start a new partnership with Yamaha.
