Jorge Martin Eyes Historic Satellite Team MotoGP Title Amidst Turning Point Season and Future Factory Team Ambitions
Jorge Martin expressed, "This moment marked a significant shift for us"
He further elaborated, "We're now in a position to focus on refining aspects rather than fixing issues. I believe this moment marked a significant shift for us in the season."
MotoGP championship frontrunner Jorge Martin has cautioned that his consecutive wins at Le Mans might mark a pivotal moment in the 2024 racing season.
This is due to the fact that the race in France marked the initial occasion this year where the Pramac Ducati competitor was able to compete in his usual style, without the necessity to compensate for problems related to chatter or bike vibrations.
"Indeed, we encountered several issues related to vibrations during the initial races, but it was in France where I rediscovered last year's feeling," Martin shared with SkySport.it. "Currently, I'm familiar with the motorcycle and understand that by focusing more on refining the details rather than fixing issues, we can achieve our goals."
"I believe this moment marked a pivotal shift in the season."
Martin enters this weekend's Catalunya MotoGP at the forefront of the championship standings, holding a 38-point lead. This assures him that he will remain at the top of the leaderboard regardless of the outcomes in Barcelona.
However, he emphasizes, "My focus is on enjoying every second and having a good time, rather than solely fixating on winning the [title]. Of course, if there's a chance to clinch the world championship by year's end, [I'll consider it] but that's not my current priority."
The fight for the championship could potentially extend until the Valencia race in November, yet a significant decision off the track regarding Martin's career is on the horizon. Is he going to secure the much-desired factory team position next to Francesco Bagnaia, or will he seek opportunities elsewhere for the 2025 season?
"The outcome should be determined by these two events. However, I believe my situation will remain consistent, whether it's in Barcelona or Mugello, you'll always find the same competitor racing," he stated.
"I believe every competitor aspires to join a factory team, and for me, it feels like the appropriate moment to pursue that. It's somewhat akin to coming full circle…"
Regardless of the manufacturer's squad Martin becomes a part of in the upcoming season, he is presented with an additional opportunity to redeem himself from last season's championship loss and set a record by becoming MotoGP's inaugural world champion from a non-factory team.
"Securing the championship would realize a lifelong ambition for both me and my family, and it would also be a historic achievement, as no one has ever clinched it with a satellite team," Martin admitted.
"Achieving this would be amazing for Paolo [Campinoti] and for the entire team, something that fills me with immense pride…"
"Martin expressed gratitude for the chance and the belief in his abilities that he received in 2021," he said, reflecting on his tenure with the Pramac team that led to his first MotoGP victory in just his sixth race.
"I believe this chapter has come to an end, and it's time to set my sights on the future: my aspiration by 2025 is to join the official Ducati team and achieve victory together."
"Let's wish for that outcome."
