**Jorge Martin Declares: “I’m the Best Rider in MotoGP” Amidst Title Battle and Strategy Setbacks**
Jorge Martin: "I believe I'm the top rider in MotoGP, and the statistics support this claim"
The current leader of the championship asserts he is the best among the 2024 contenders.
Jorge Martin, who currently leads in MotoGP points, asserts that he is "the top rider at present" but admits he needs to "refine certain aspects".
Last season, Martin secured the second position in the championship behind Francesco Bagnaia and has been leading the 2024 points standings for the majority of this year's campaign.
Following a catastrophic San Marino Grand Prix, his lead shrank from 26 points to just seven due to a risky strategy in unpredictable weather that caused him to fall a lap behind, ending up in 15th place.
In a conversation with DAZN before the Misano race held last weekend, Martin was questioned about who he considers the top rider among the current competitors.
"It's really challenging," Martin started.
"What does it mean to be the top rider? It’s quite unclear and challenging to define."
"There is a top tier consisting of the four of us competing—those of us on Ducati: Pecco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, Enea Bastianini, and myself. It’s evident we’re a step ahead."
"Right now, it might sound conceited, but I believe I'm the top rider."
"I must continually refine, labor, and enhance my skills. If I stop, within six months, I might find myself dropping from the top position to the eighth."
"I believe I am the quickest out there, and the statistics back it up—it's not just my opinion."
Martin has achieved the highest number of pole positions this season, securing five. In comparison, Bagnaia has two, Bastianini has one, Maverick Vinales has one, Aleix Espargaro has two, and Marc Marquez also has two.
He holds the record for the most sprint victories, tallying up to four, which is just one more than his main competitor for the title, Bagnaia, after 13 rounds of the 2024 season.
Martin has secured just two grand prix wins compared to Bagnaia's seven, and Marc Marquez has equaled the Pramac rider's total after winning the San Marino GP.
Martin has maintained his lead in the championship primarily due to his consistent performance, as he has only missed out on scoring points three times in 2024.
During the same interview with DAZN, Martin confessed that he "felt like a fool" after Ducati reversed its choice to advance him to its factory team, opting for Marquez instead.
In 2025, Martin is set to become a member of the Aprilia factory team alongside Marco Bezzecchi. Meanwhile, Pramac Racing will switch from Ducati to Yamaha equipment.
