**Johann Zarco Reflects on Mixed Fortunes Amid Honda’s Struggles at San Marino MotoGP**
Johann Zarco finds satisfaction in earning points but is disheartened by Honda's persistent speed issues. Zarco is content with matching his top finish for Honda by securing 12th place in the San Marino MotoGP, despite the overall lack of competitive performance.
Johann Zarco was ready to take the respectable points he earned for finishing 12th in the San Marino MotoGP. He admitted that the result was somewhat lucky, but it came from using the right strategy in the rainy conditions at Misano.
The French rider, who secured a race victory with Pramac Ducati last season, is facing a challenging debut year on Honda bikes with the LCR team. His top performance so far has been a 12th place finish as they head into Round 13.
Earlier in the weekend at Misano, there was no indication that Zarco would achieve a new personal best. During qualifying and the Sprint Race, he and his fellow Honda riders were struggling near the back of the pack.
The two-time Moto2 World Champion found luck in the main race by deciding to remain on the track despite unpredictable weather conditions, while many of his competitors opted to pit for bikes equipped with wet-weather tires.
Once the weather improved, drivers who had switched to wet tires had to return to the pit lane to change back to slick tires. During this time, Zarco managed to maintain his place as the top Honda rider, finishing in 12th place and earning four crucial points.
While he is happy to have secured valuable points, which he managed to do only seven times this year, he is still dissatisfied with Honda's overall performance compared to its competitors.
"We lacked speed and I feel disappointed that I couldn't contribute. Right from the start of the race, I wanted to compete, but I couldn't keep up with the others."
"Managing emotions while cycling is challenging, but I was aware that the overcast weather could lead to unpredictable conditions. I'm pleased with our choice to maintain our position until the finish."
Takaaki Nakagami, a member of the LCR team who will be substituted by Somkiat Chantra next season, also felt a sense of relief after his strategic decisions paid off, allowing him to finish in 13th place and earn points.
"I noticed a few riders entering the pits and thought to myself, 'thanks'!"
"We were just a few positions away from earning points, but today we got really lucky and managed to secure some. It was quite unexpected."
