Jaguar I-Pace Recall Escalates: Owners Urged to Park EVs Outdoors as Overheating Risks Persist
Jaguar Land Rover is issuing another recall for its initial models of the Jaguar I-Pace electric SUVs due to a potential overheating problem with the high-voltage battery. The company advises owners to charge and park their vehicles outdoors, at a distance from any buildings, until the issue is resolved and to continue doing so for an additional 30 days thereafter.
The recall affects a total of 2,760 vehicles, specifically from the 2019 production line, which marks the inaugural year for Jaguar's exclusive electric vehicle. These vehicles were part of earlier recalls that encompassed enhanced software updates intended to identify problems with the battery pack. Despite these updates, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was informed of three incidents concerning the 2019 I-Pace electric vehicles, all occurring in 2024.

Jaguar Land Rover found the diagnostic software to be ineffective as battery packs continue to overheat. The company is now seeking alternative measures. They are currently conducting an investigation and have discovered that the software detected certain battery modules with a bent anode tab feature, a potential factor in the overheating issue.
During this period, service centers will implement new control software for the battery module, capping the charge at 80% without any cost to the owners. Jaguar intends to send out letters notifying owners on October 18, 2024. For further details, owners can contact Jaguar's customer support at 1-800-452-4827 and refer to the recall code H514.
The 2019 model of the Jaguar I
Following an extensive recall of I-Paces last year over concerns of potential fires, Jaguar has issued a more limited recall this year, affecting only 258 vehicles, specifically those from the 2019 lineup. The company identified an increased likelihood of short circuits occurring in the battery cells of these cars and decided to proceed with replacing the entire battery packs.
The I-Pace model from Jaguar has remained unchanged in design since it first came out. However, a few years back, it received upgrades including quicker charging capabilities and a more responsive system. Earlier speculations that Jaguar would cease production of the I-Pace turned out to be true, with the company phasing out this model along with several others in anticipation of a rumored revival that may introduce a fresh lineup of electric vehicles.
