Introducing the 2024 Cupra Terramar: A Spanish Sibling to the New Audi Q3 with a Combustion Twist
Cupra Terramar (2024): Everything about the sibling of the new Audi Q3
The prices for the combustion engine SUV start at 43,020 euros
The future Audi Q3 will have a Spanish relative, both manufactured in Hungary: Cupra had already showcased the Terramar as a close-to-production concept in mid-2022. Perhaps a bit prematurely, as only now is the production version being revealed. However, it is not another electric vehicle: Terramar relies on traditional gasoline engines and plug-in hybrids.
The newly named Cupra Terramar pays tribute to the iconic race track, the Autòdrom de Sitges-Terramar, which is the birthplace of the Cupra brand back in 2018.

Size and Style
Let's look at the specifics: The Terramar measures 4,519 mm in length, 1,584 mm in height, 1,863 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,681 mm. This makes it slightly shorter and notably lower than the new VW Tiguan, though it shares the same wheelbase and platform with it.
The trunk capacity of the Terramar is 602 liters when the seats are in their standard position. The maximum towing capacity is 1,800 kg for the 1.5 eTSI model and 2,200 kg for the 2.0 TSI 4Drive. The permissible nose weight is 80 kg. The cost for the tow hitch is 975 euros.
The front end of the Cupra is distinguished by its shark-nose design. The Terramar model features the brand's latest three-triangle lighting signature, equipped with matrix LED headlights. The brand's emblem is highlighted by twin lines that add a "sculptural quality and a sense of movement to the expansive hood, while also accentuating the vehicle's proportions," according to the manufacturer…
Cupra Terramar, set to launch in 2024
Standard issue are alloy wheels measuring 18 inches, while opting for the 20-inch version will set you back by 915 to 1,310 euros. The illuminated Cupra emblem is centrally located between the rear lights, as is the lit-up 'Terramar' nameplate.
The sport utility vehicle will come in a selection of nine exterior colors, featuring two matte options: Century Bronze Matte and Enceladus Gray Matte, which will cost an extra €2,435 and are only available with specific trims. Additional color choices include Dark Void, which takes a cue from the plasma color of the DarkRebel show car, along with Fiord Blue at no extra cost, Glacial White, Cosmos Blue Metallic, Midnight Black, and Graphene Gray. The additional charges for these colors range from €770 to €1,120.
Interior
The interior is quite high-tech, featuring a 10.25-inch digital dashboard for the driver and a central 12.9-inch touchscreen. The upgraded hardware and more powerful software merge to create a customizable display that integrates touchscreen functionality with a backlit scroll bar for adjusting climate control and volume settings. This is reminiscent of the updated VW Golf…

The infotainment system offers customizable widgets, providing users with the flexibility to tailor it to their specific needs. Additionally, there is an option to include a head-up display that projects onto the windshield.
Engines
Let's delve into the engine segment. As previously mentioned, Cupra has opted for traditional combustion engines for the Terramar, with no pure electric options available. This role is reserved for the Tavascan, which is 13 cm longer. However, Cupra's press release for the Terramar doesn't mention any diesel variants. This might be what sets it apart from the VW Tiguan and Audi Q3, which also employ the MQB-Evo platform from the Volkswagen Group.
What does the initial engine selection offer? TSI, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. It starts with a 110 kW (150 hp) 48V petrol engine with a 1.5-liter displacement and a 7-speed DSG. This "eTSI" delivers 250 Nm of peak torque, takes 9.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h, and has a top speed of 205 km/h.
Additionally, there are two TSI petrol engines, both paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive: one producing 150 kW (204 horsepower) and the other, available in the Terramar VZ version, delivering 195 kW (265 horsepower). The more powerful Terramar VZ boasts a peak torque of 400 Nm, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 243 km/h.
Cupra Terramar Set for 2024 Release
Plug-in hybrid enthusiasts have a choice between two models: one with 150 kW (204 horsepower) and a more powerful variant at 200 kW (272 horsepower). These are equipped with a 1.5 TSI engine paired with an electric motor, which is supported by a hefty battery pack boasting a net capacity of 19.7 kWh. This setup enables the new Cupra Terramar to travel over 100 km on electricity alone. For recharging, the battery accepts up to 50 kW of direct current when on the move or can be powered up at home using a wall box charger with a capacity of up to 11 kW.
The setup, which includes a MacPherson strut for the front wheels and a multi-link rear suspension, is standardized across all models with a sporty configuration that sits 10mm lower than the MQB Evo platform.
Competitors of the newly launched Cupra Terramar:
The driving dynamics of the Terramar can be tailored through a range of selectable driving modes: Comfort, Performance, Cupra (specific to the VZ models), Offroad (for models with four-wheel drive), and Individual. The electronic stability control (ESP) is adjustable to a Sport setting for all engine types and can be completely switched off in the VZ models (2.0 TSI 265 HP and e-HYBRID 272 HP) with an ESC Off option.
Pricing
Germany's car configurator already features the Cupra Terramar, although not all the engine options mentioned above are available yet. Pricing starts at €43,020 for the 150 horsepower 1.5 eTSI model. For reference, a VW Tiguan with equivalent power is priced at €41,655. Below is a detailed list of the Terramar's pricing:
