Indian MotoGP Promoter Dismisses Cancellation Rumours, Confirms Race On Schedule
Indian MotoGP organizer dismisses cancellation "speculations"
"The event is definitely happening. It's all just speculative talk."
The organizer of the Indian MotoGP maintains that this year's race is still definitely happening.
Speculation about delayed payments and the rescheduling of the Kazakhstan round has thrown into question the possibility of going back to India for a second year, following the successful launch event last year.
An insider familiar with the matter informed Crash.net that outstanding payments would be settled after the lifting of a 'Model Code of Conduct' governing the expenditure of public funds, which is currently in effect due to the country's General Election, is removed on June 4.
This viewpoint has been echoed by Pushkar Nath Srivastava, the CEO of Fairstreet, the co-promoter of Indian MotoGP.
"The competition is definitely underway. These are merely speculations circulating. Srivastava has been cited stating that all contractual commitments will be fulfilled by June."
It's reported that Dorna has obtained written assurances from the State Government regarding the commitment to make payments by the specified date of June 4.
The Indian MotoGP is set to take place from September 20th to 22nd this year at the Buddh International Circuit.
Kazakhstan's initial appearance, which was pushed back because of flood conditions, had been scheduled for June 14-16. It has now been officially rescheduled for later in the year 2024.
