Hulkenberg Penalized to Eighth on German GP Grid After Tyre Allocation Error
Hulkenberg demoted from 7th to 8th due to penalty
Nico Hulkenberg received a one-position penalty on the grid for the German Grand Prix following a confusion over tyre allocation that led to the use of an incorrect set during qualifying.
The driver from Force India employed tires during the first qualifying session which, due to a mistake, were supposed to be given back to Pirelli following the third free practice session. This action led to a violation of Article 24.3 e) of the Sporting Regulations.
Attributed to the team mistakenly submitting the incorrect set of tires electronically, which were then utilized in Q1, Hulkenberg will commence from the eighth position on the grid after initially qualifying in seventh. Consequently, Valtteri Bottas ascends to the seventh spot.
Before the decision, Hulkenberg expressed satisfaction with his showing, noting he was the top performer outside the leading teams of Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari on the timesheets.
"The day went well, definitely a positive experience. Securing the seventh place was the highest achievement we could realistically aim for and accomplish today. Considering that only the top three teams are ahead of us, it's a satisfactory outcome."
