Honesty on the Track: Hamilton Lauds Magnussen’s Candid Admission After Fierce Miami Sprint Clash

Lewis Hamilton appreciated Kevin Magnussen's candidness following their intense competition in the Miami sprint race.

Lewis Hamilton has commended Kevin Magnussen for his forthrightness following a confrontation between the two during the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix sprint race.

Hamilton and Magnussen were locked in a battle for the last point available in eighth place throughout almost the entire race, coming into contact with each other several times.

Haas racer Magnussen incurred three separate 10-second penalties for gaining an advantage by going off-track during the competition, along with an additional five-second penalty for multiple instances of surpassing the track boundaries.

After accruing penalties amounting to 35 seconds, Magnussen fell from 10th place to 18th, ending up in last position.

Following the sprint race, Magnussen acknowledged that the penalties he received were "justified".

Seven-time world champion Hamilton expressed admiration for Magnussen's candor.

"Hamilton, who ended up in eighth place on the track but fell to 16th in the overall standings due to a 20-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane, expressed admiration for the candor, saying, 'I think it's incredibly sincere of him and I find that quite impressive.'"

"The race went well for us. At times, it pushed the limits, but that's precisely what excites me. I thrive on intense competition!"

"Personally, I didn't feel any frustration or similar emotions. However, I acknowledge that's the approach you take when collaborating in a team, so well done."

Magnussen attributed the penalties to the "foolish strategies" he was forced to employ in assisting his Haas colleague, Nico Hulkenberg, secure crucial points with a seventh-place finish.

"The Dane admitted, “There’s no question that all the penalties were justified. However, I was obligated to participate in the game once more."

I found myself in an excellent spot just behind the lead. At the race's start, I managed to climb several spots, securing 8th place.

"I managed to defend effectively against Lewis since I was benefiting from Nico's DRS and I had a strong pace."

"However, Nico took a shortcut through the chicane, causing me to lose the DRS. He could have allowed me to regain it to defend our positions, which would have solidly placed us in seventh and eighth place. As a result, I was left exposed to Lewis and ended up in a fierce battle with him."

"I had no choice but to establish a lead like before in Jeddah and begin employing these foolish strategies, which I'm not fond of utilizing.

"Ultimately, I fulfilled my role as part of the team, enabling Nico to earn his points by creating that distance for him, which prevented Lewis and Tsunoda from catching up. It's certainly not my preferred method of racing, but it was necessary in today's context."
