Highs and Lows at Aragon: Brad Binder’s Burnout Battle and Jack Miller’s Rins Encounter
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I did another rolling burnout!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller remarked, "Rins got the better of me."
Brad Binder shared, "I had an excellent strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the first race in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at Aragon.
Despite veering off course in both competitions, he secured seventh place, taking advantage of the cleaner section of a messy starting lineup.
During the middle phase of the race, Binder was trailing behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This competition turned into a fight for the third position after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to stay just beyond reach.
“I devised a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!” Binder beamed.
"I maneuvered carefully and overtook a few competitors. Avoiding errors was challenging since the front tire was overheating while trailing others, especially up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't approach them too quickly due to the front overheating. However, this strategy backfired in the end as the left side of the tire wore out completely."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but my car had no power left in the back!"
"Aside from that, we took several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Teammate Jack Miller had a strong start, moving from 15th place on the grid to 8th by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly joined those facing issues with rear grip.
Following a last-lap battle where he lost ninth place to Alex Rins, he was later penalized along with two other riders for tyre pressure violations, adding 16 seconds to his time and relegating him to 15th place.
“That was quite a lengthy race,” Miller remarked. “The track conditions have varied once more; it’s been mostly dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident coming out of the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when moving from the outer to the inner part of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully."
“There were no errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We’ll continue to work hard.”
"I'm pleased to finish in the top ten, but it was frustrating to have Rins pass me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn't get a good acceleration and he managed to overtake me."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, the addition of test rider Pol Espargaro as a wild-card entry will bring the total number of KTM riders to five.
Team manager Francesco Guidotti stated, "Next, we head to Misano with an eye on the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard, which should provide us with some valuable insights for the future."
The initial Misano MotoGP event will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might get official confirmation as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's home races in Italy, currently sits in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
