Hamilton’s Ferrari Move: The Catalyst for a New Era of Success, Predicts Smedley
Lewis Hamilton is expected to inspire positive changes at Ferrari
It's anticipated that Ferrari will enhance their performance following Lewis Hamilton's arrival in the 2025 F1 season.
Lewis Hamilton is expected to bring positive changes and drive success as he transitions to Ferrari in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
According to ex-F1 engineer Rob Smedley, Hamilton joining Ferrari could significantly change the team's success.
The seven-time world champion is set to make a sensational move to Ferrari next season, following his decision to leave Mercedes.
Smedley, who was employed by Ferrari from 2004 to 2013, believes that the Italian team will elevate their performance after Hamilton comes on board.
"Smedley expressed strong belief in Lewis's potential impact, stating on the Formula For Success podcast that he's optimistic Lewis will drive positive changes once he arrives."
"I believe the team will welcome him warmly. If someone arrives with a reputation for performance similar to what Lewis brings to the table, the team will certainly rally behind him. They will undoubtedly support him."
Therefore, it's crucial for Lewis to contribute too. He must actively engage and integrate with the team's culture, rather than remaining distant or detached. By doing so, he will be embraced by them. Truly, he will be held in high regard.
"I believe the team will now sense an ability to enhance their performance slightly, by perhaps one or two percent, due to an increase in confidence, correct?
"A seven-time World Champion has decided to join your squad, opting for your team instead of staying with, essentially, the team he's spent his entire career with, if you consider his history with their engine. Now, he's leaving behind all of that heritage and legacy to become a part of your team."
"This significantly enhances your self-assurance. Moreover, if everyone puts in just a little more effort, say an extra half percent, then truly remarkable outcomes are achievable."
Smedley, previously Felipe Massa's dedicated race engineer at Ferrari and later joined him at Williams, believes that it was the correct choice for Hamilton and Peter 'Bono' Bonnington to end their 12-year collaboration.
“Having a driver of Lewis’s caliber, a seven-time World Champion, pick your team to join, I believe he doesn’t need to come with an entourage,” Smedley stated.
"I've consistently voiced this opinion openly, not just regarding Lewis personally, I believe, but also when it comes to individuals such as Bono. In my view, it's a risky strategy to essentially shadow the driver."
"Lewis made a wise choice, considering that if the driver loses favor or realizes that this path isn't suitable for them after a year, they won't be able to bring their entire team along.
"Certainly, he would be surrounded by 'Team LH', which includes his management, trainers, and similar individuals. However, attempting to bring engineers along might have been somewhat ill-advised."
