Rishi Sunak has charged Sir Keir Starmer with concealing a report evaluating the effects of reducing winter fuel allowances for 10 million elderly people.
Mr. Sunak questioned Sir Keir on two occasions about whether he would release an evaluation of the effects of the policy, following the decision by Labour MPs on Tuesday to advance the reduction.
Sir Keir stated that his administration had no alternative but to act, as Mr. Sunak's government had left the economy facing a £22 billion deficit.

He declined to confirm if an impact assessment had been conducted, or whether he would release one.
Prime Minister Sunak stated that the reduction is unrelated to government finances and mentioned that Chancellor Rachel Reeves conceded earlier today that she would rather the policy not generate any revenue.
He added that the government "clearly…would not have made this decision without analyzing its impact, and the energy minister affirmed this yesterday."
On Tuesday, Energy Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh stated that her department has evaluated the effects of the cut on pensioners who are struggling with fuel poverty.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced that a document would be released "in due course." This delay has drawn criticism from left-wing Labour MPs, who argue that the failure to disclose the information leads to accusations of the government concealing details.

Following another instance where Sir Keir declined to commit to releasing an impact assessment, Mr. Sunak commented, "Today, the pensioners observing have noticed that the prime minister has consistently avoided acknowledging or disclosing the effects of his choice, and we will persist in calling him out on this issue."
The prime minister charged the Conservative leader with lacking any remorse or accountability for the economic abyss, the deteriorated NHS, the prison turmoil, and the disastrous outcomes of 14 years of mismanagement.
Sir Keir's official representative subsequently stated: "The government has conducted itself with openness and transparency regarding the specific advice in question."
She noted, "The prime minister has been upfront with the public about the challenges we are confronting, the necessary actions we must take, and the measures that have been implemented to assist vulnerable pensioners."
Elderly individuals who fail to claim pension credit will no longer be eligible for the usual winter payment of up to £300 intended to assist with heating expenses.
