From Karting to F1: Nico Rosberg Backs Kimi Antonelli as Mercedes’ Next Prodigy
Nico Rosberg Discloses Connection with Kimi Antonelli and Forecasts His Upcoming Prospects
Will Kimi Antonelli Make the Grade at Mercedes?
Nico Rosberg has praised Kimi Antonelli, predicting a bright future for him.
The former Mercedes champion also disclosed that the upcoming Formula 1 driver once raced for his go-kart squad.
In 2025, Antonelli is set to take over from Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, a move that will put his remarkable skills to the test.
"Being part of my go-kart team, I'm confident he's the top talent for the coming generation. Mercedes makes that obvious," 2016 F1 champion Rosberg shared with Sky Sports.
"He's only just reached 18. The burden on him is immense. It's a significant challenge."
"Furthermore, the role he's stepping into…"
"He is acquiring the vehicle from the ultimate legend."
Martin Brundle commented, "Everything looks positive. The team adores him and has faith in his abilities. They've provided him with numerous days for testing.
"At 18 years old, he will be exceptionally ready to step in."
"He is bound to err, but they are aware and ready for it."
Antonelli experienced a crash during his debut FP1 session in a Formula 1 vehicle last Friday at the Monza circuit.
The preparation was terrible just a day before he was revealed as Mercedes' choice for 2025, taking over from Hamilton who was set to join Ferrari.
Nevertheless, Mercedes indicated that the information from Antonelli's crash demonstrated his exceptional speed in the vehicle.
The young star is expected to return to the driver's seat, probably for another Free Practice 1 session during this year's Mexican Grand Prix.
However, the intensity will instantly increase once he takes on a permanent racing position next season in a vehicle that is expected to have the potential to win Grand Prix races.
