Fred Vasseur Leaves Door Open for Future Collaboration with Carlos Sainz Despite Ferrari Departure
Fred Vasseur is open to collaborating with Carlos Sainz once more, even after leaving Ferrari. The head of Ferrari's Formula 1 team, Fred Vasseur, expressed his willingness to rehire Carlos Sainz for the team in the future.
Fred Vasseur, the head of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, has suggested that there could be opportunities to collaborate with departing driver Carlos Sainz again down the line.
At the conclusion of the ongoing season, Sainz will be departing from Ferrari. His exit paves the way for Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, to join the team and race alongside Charles Leclerc starting next year.
The Spanish driver has now signed with Williams for the 2025 season and beyond. However, Vasseur mentioned that he would be open to having the "extremely professional" Sainz back on his team in the future.
Vasseur expressed his immense admiration for Carlos, highlighting his contributions to the team over the past several years, and especially during the last two years under his leadership as team boss.
"I clearly remember his performance last year, especially during difficult times. He managed to rally the team, securing pole position in Monza and a win in Singapore. This likely motivated Charles as well, leading him to achieve several consecutive front-row starts on the grid."
"He played a significant role in the team's comeback last year and is performing excellently this season. I am fully aware that the circumstances at the start of the season were challenging, but he has shown immense professionalism."
"Last winter, we talked and decided to give our all until the very end of the season. He's performing excellently."
In response to a question about the possibility of collaborating with Sainz in the future, Vasseur affirmed, "Absolutely, without a doubt."
"I am extremely happy to have Carlos on the team and intend to maintain a strong relationship with him."
Sainz has not dismissed the possibility of rejoining Ferrari in the future, a team he has been with since 2021.
Carlos Sainz shared with The Athletic that his departure at the end of the year doesn't indicate any issues between him and Ferrari.
A seven-time world champion expressed interest in joining Ferrari towards the end of his career, and as a result, I had to step aside and make way for Lewis. I harbor no resentment about this.
“I likely have another five to ten years left in my career. So, why would I rule out the possibility of returning?”
