Ford Mustang Mach-E Shatters EV Distance Record with 569-Mile Trek on a Single Charge
A group from the United Kingdom has established a new Guinness World Record for the furthest journey in an electric vehicle on one charge, achieving a distance of 569 miles plus an additional 3,379 feet in a Ford Mustang Mach-E.
On July 27, the team, backed by the fleet management firm Webfleet, undertook a record-setting effort that spanned slightly more than 24 hours, as reported by Autocar. They utilized a single-motor Mach-E Premium outfitted with a more capacious Extended Range battery and equipped with 18-inch rims wrapped in Bridgestone tires designed specifically for electric vehicles.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E establishes a new Guinness World Record for the furthest distance traveled on one charge.
The Mach-E was taken for a spin on public highways in the U.K., managing to cover a distance of 21 miles even when the battery indicator showed 0% charge remaining. The electric SUV managed an impressive average of 6.25 miles per kilowatt-hour, significantly outperforming the U.K.'s official WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) efficiency figure of 3.8 miles per kilowatt-hour for this particular model of the Mach-E.
The circuit aimed to mimic actual driving scenarios, as per Webfleet's statement, but to surpass the record, the driving approach probably had to be exceptionally cautious. The specific Mach-E variant utilized in the record-setting endeavor has a WLTP-estimated range of 372 miles, while its corresponding EPA estimate stands at 320 miles.
In a record-breaking feat last September, Zeekr, a car manufacturer from China, achieved a notable distance of 563.971 miles in Hangzhou. However, it has been reported that Nio, another automotive company, stated their ET7 sedan powered by a 150-kwh battery, managed to cover a distance of 650 miles in a single charge. This journey, which spanned 14 hours and connected Shanghai and Xiamen, seemingly went unrecognized by the Guinness World Records.
The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX prototype managed to travel 746 miles on a single charge during a journey from Germany to the U.K. in 2022. While this vehicle isn't available for purchase, it showcases technological advancements that may enhance the performance of upcoming Mercedes electric vehicles and combat the issue of increasing weight that current versions face.
