Ferrari Bows Out of Bidding War with Aston Martin for F1 Design Icon Adrian Newey
Ferrari chose not to compete with Aston Martin in an attempt to hire renowned F1 designer Adrian Newey.
Ferrari was not interested in engaging in a competitive bidding process with Aston Martin to hire renowned Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey.
According to Motorsport, team leader Frederic Vasseur "had obtained the funds to hire Newey," but Ferrari was unwilling to equal Aston Martin's "significant" proposal for the 65-year-old.
As reported, Ferrari could have taken on a consultant position with the team, working out of the UK instead of moving to Italy to be near the team's headquarters in Maranello.
The report mentioned that this situation would be quite similar to John Barnard’s tenure as Ferrari’s chief designer. Instead of relocating to Maranello, Barnard established his office in Guildford and had engineers assigned to his own team.
Ferrari has not replied to Crash.net's request for a comment.
Newey is set to become part of the British team Aston Martin, with a formal announcement anticipated next week before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
Aston Martin has arranged a press conference for Tuesday, September 10.
On Tuesday, Aston Martin refuted claims that Newey has been signed by them.
"Aston Martin's spokesperson informed Crash.net that Adrian has been associated with various teams and would be an asset to any project he chooses to become part of."
"He's among the notable figures associated with this thrilling Aston Martin initiative, but there's no official news to share at the moment."
According to Sky, Newey has accepted Aston Martin's offer, and the terms of his personal contract have been settled.
In early 2025, after spending 19 years with Red Bull, Newey will be free to join a different team.
