Ferrari 12Cilindri (2024): A Nostalgic Design with 830 Horsepower

The successor to the 812 Superfast boasts a robust 6.5-liter V12 engine, free of turbochargers and hybrid technology…

Ferrari is staying true to its roots with its latest global debut. Introducing the 12Cilindri, the heir to the 812 Superfast throne, now unveiled in Miami as both a coupe and a convertible. As its name implies, the spotlight is on the powerhouse beneath the hood: a pure, turbo-free, non-electrified V12 engine.

The latest iteration of Ferrari's F140 engine is a 6.5-liter V12 powerhouse, which debuted in the Enzo two decades ago. This modern version generates a robust 830 horsepower at 9,250 RPM and 678 Nm of torque at 7,250 RPM. Impressively, the engine's rev limit reaches a staggering 9,500 RPM. Despite the absence of hybrid technology, the manufacturer has managed to comply with all essential emission regulations.

The engine closely mirrors that of the 812 Competizione, featuring titanium connecting rods and a valve train that swaps the usual hydraulic lifters for a rigid setup with roller followers. However, it boasts a distinctive system known as "Aspirated Torque Shaping," which electronically alters the torque curve in the third and fourth gears.

The engine is connected to a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that pledges to deliver gear shifts 30% quicker than the transmission found in the 812. Taking into account that the 812 was among the fastest-shifting vehicles on the road, one can only surmise the potential enhancement in driving experience. Additionally, the shift to larger 21-inch tires reduces the gear ratio by 5 percent, further improving acceleration.

Ferrari claims that their vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Achieving 0-200 km/h takes under 7.9 seconds. However, these performance metrics are specific to the coupe model; the convertible Spider version is slightly slower. Nevertheless, both models are said to reach top speeds exceeding 340 km/h.

As expected, the 12Cilindri is equipped with Ferrari's latest and most advanced chassis control systems, including Side Slip Control 8, which is designed to allow for a quicker assessment of tire grip. It also features independent four-wheel steering. As mentioned before, the wheel sizes have increased from 20 to 21 inches, with 275/35ZR21 at the front and 315/35ZR21 at the rear. Customers have the option to choose between Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tires.

Ferrari reports the empty weight of the vehicle to be 1,560 ai-allcreator.com">kilograms, a figure that applies exclusively to the hardtop version. Information for the convertible is not disclosed, but it's expected to be slightly heavier. Another point of note is that the 12Cilindri is claimed to have a 15 percent increase in rigidity compared to the 812.

At the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 was showcased.

The 12Cilindri measures 4,733 mm in length, 2,176 mm in width, and 1,292 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. In most aspects, it's slightly larger than the 812 Superfast, except for a slightly shorter wheelbase. Its design resembles that of the Roma but includes additional technical features. For instance, the black panel at the front of the bonnet and between the headlights nods to the front section of early versions of the 365 GTB/4 Daytona.

Inside the vehicle, one can spot the now customary steering wheel of Ferrari. However, unlike many of the brand's other recent models, there's a central infotainment screen present. Apart from that, the interior doesn't vary much from what we've observed in the Purosangue. Of course… the 12Cilindri lacks back seats.

Still curious about the Italian pricing? Alright then… the 12Cilindri as a coupe starts at a minimum of 395,000 Euros. The convertible version, known as the Spider, is slightly pricier, starting at 435,000 Euros. It's likely that these figures will be similar in Germany. Expensive, right? Yet, we anticipate that this model series is probably sold out for the coming years. Ferrari seems to be doing its usual Ferrari-like things.
