Fernando Alonso Takes the Wheel of Adrian Newey-Designed Aston Martin Valkyrie Ahead of F1 Collaboration
Fernando Alonso received an Aston Martin Valkyrie, a car designed by the renowned F1 engineer Adrian Newey.
Fernando Alonso has received an Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, designed by the renowned Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey.
Adorned in Aston Martin's signature racing green color with a personalized license plate and detailed customizations showcasing his race number, #14, Alonso took the Valkyrie for a spin from the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel on Wednesday.
Every seat in the hybrid hypercar, which features a 6.5-litre V12 engine and costs £2.3 million, is decorated with Alonso's distinctive logo.
The Valkyrie boasts a peak of 1,155 horsepower and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds.
Two-time world champion Alonso expressed his excitement, saying he could hardly describe how eagerly he had been anticipating this day.
"Being behind the wheel of my custom Valkyrie, which I played a significant role in designing alongside the Q by Aston Martin team, is truly an unforgettable experience."
"The Valkyrie is essentially a Formula 1 car designed for everyday driving. It incorporates a significant amount of Aston Martin's racing expertise and technological advancements. I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to drive it on public roads."
Technicians at Aston Martin's Gaydon facility in the UK have manually assembled 150 Valkyrie vehicles.
Newey, the genius responsible for the design, is anticipated to be revealed as a new addition to Alonso's team at Aston Martin before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix next week.
Should the reported £20 million agreement be confirmed, the Valkyrie would mark the initial vehicle crafted by the 65-year-old British designer that Alonso will get behind the wheel of.
Aston Martin seems to have secured Newey's expertise, outpacing competitors such as Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams.
Adrian Newey will depart from Red Bull in early 2025 after nearly two decades of service at the Milton Keynes location.
