Fernando Alonso is eagerly anticipating the “amazing chance” to collaborate with Adrian Newey when the renowned F1 designer starts working with Aston Martin.
During a press conference held on Tuesday at their upscale Silverstone Formula 1 headquarters, Aston Martin announced that Newey has joined the team as the Managing Technical Partner after departing from Red Bull.
The seasoned 65-year-old, boasting 25 world championship titles from his tenure with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, is set to begin his new position as head of Aston Martin's technical division on March 1, 2025.
Newey is set to team up with Alonso, a two-time world champion who is excited about the opportunity to finally drive the British engineer's cars.
During Aston Martin's press conference, Alonso mentioned that they had competed for many years and that his rival had been a source of inspiration for him.
"Adrian's skills and vehicles pushed all of us to improve. Whether drivers, engineers, or teams, we had to elevate our standards to stay competitive because of him."
