Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Rumors Amid Aston Martin Struggles: ‘It’s Not Just One Man’s Job
Fernando Alonso Addresses Speculation of Adrian Newey Announcement This Week
Fernando Alonso States He Dislikes Excuses Amid Aston Martin's Challenges
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than just a single individual, as speculation about Adrian Newey's involvement persists.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix suggest that Aston Martin might reveal their acquisition of Newey in a matter of days.
Adrian Newey, who is currently the chief technology officer at Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year, after which he will be available to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Speculation that Aston Martin could be his next team has intensified lately, while rumors of a potential move to Ferrari have diminished.
At Monza, Alonso mentioned that the information is still just speculation and emphasized that resolving the issues isn't solely the responsibility of one individual.
"It's about evaluating our current situation and what we are creating. We need to identify what is progressing well and what isn't, and then work on making better preparations for 2025."
If Newey is available next year, he could manage the 2026 car for a different team, potentially providing them with a crucial edge when the new engine regulations take effect.
Aston Martin has poured substantial funds into a new facility at Silverstone and has extended Alonso's contract through the end of 2026. They will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine that complies with upcoming regulations.
However, up to this point, the outcomes have been quite disheartening.
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth spot in the constructors' championship. At the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso secured 11th place, while his teammate Lance Stroll ended up in 19th position.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of growth for Aston Martin, setting the stage for a major push in
“There’s nothing we can do,” Alonso responded. “We’re relying on our team, and I believe that both Lance and I are putting in our best effort every weekend."
"During a weekend like this one, when I feel particularly inspired, I know I'll remain entirely anonymous."
"Throughout this year, Lance and I have often finished races within two or three seconds of each other, whether ahead or behind. This weekend, I managed to perform slightly better, feeling satisfied with the car and pushing its limits possibly beyond 100%. As a result, I secured P11."
"Absolutely, it's frustrating. We must remain patient and keep in mind that our main goal is set for 2026."
"However, I believe that as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four position. The leading teams are significantly ahead of us."
"Being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull means we have to step up our game. We need to improve."
Alonso commented on the car for the upcoming year, stating, "I believe we still have time to make adjustments."
“Within a span of four months, McLaren advanced from the bottom position to securing a spot on the podium. This serves as a clear illustration.”
"Additionally, Mercedes had the same starting point as us. We were on par with them for the first four races, and they've already secured three victories this year. So, I'm not one to make excuses."
However, it is improbable that Aston Martin will make progress in the upcoming rounds.
Alonso expressed his frustration, stating that the current performance of the car is inadequate until an upgrade is implemented.
"Performance was lacking in Monza. It was subpar in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary too."
"I believe there won't be significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"That's the strategy. The team understands what's going on and is giving their all. We're staying together and continuing to strive. Last weekend we earned one point, today we were nearly at two points, and that's the challenge we'll keep facing."
