Fabio di Giannantonio Faces Tough Decision: Surgery or Strength Training for Shoulder Injury?
Fabio di Giannantonio: "The physician has already recommended surgery for this shoulder"
Fabio di Giannantonio considers undergoing surgery during the winter season.
Following the revelation that Fabio di Giannantonio faces an '80%' chance of experiencing additional dislocations in his left shoulder, he had a challenging weekend at the San Marino MotoGP.
The VR46 rider mentioned that his shoulder hurts, he isn't in peak condition, and he isn't riding as he normally does after placing ninth on Sunday.
Giannantonio skipped the official test on Monday to allow his injury to heal.
"The main focus right now is on recuperation," he stated. "I won't be participating on the track tomorrow, and I plan to take full advantage of these next two weeks leading up to Miano 2."
There are seven rounds left in the season before a choice must be made about having surgery.
"In my initial medical examination, the doctor informed me that this shoulder needed surgery," stated di Giannantonio, who is presently ranked eighth in the world championship.
"Technically, I might need surgery. However, we'll have to wait and see. If we manage to strengthen the muscles effectively, there’s a chance that I won’t face any more issues and can proceed without it."
"We need to wait until all the inflammation subsides, including the fluid and other related issues. It’s going to be a lengthy process."
Di Giannantonio is set to stay with the VR46 team for the upcoming two seasons, during which he will receive factory-spec equipment through a direct contract with Ducati.
