Fabio di Giannantonio relishes being likened to Valentino Rossi
He also clarifies his action towards Alex Marquez
Fabio di Giannantonio bore a resemblance to Valentino Rossi during the Silverstone race – not only due to his traditional paint scheme but also occasionally in the way he rode.
The VR46 competitor crossed the finish line in fifth place at the British MotoGP, concluding a weekend during which Rossi's squad announced their future role as Ducati’s officially backed satellite team.
On Sunday at Silverstone, every squad showcased a retro paint scheme, with the VR46 Ducatis and their racers adorned akin to Rossi during his prime.
"It was truly remarkable. Upon laying my eyes on the bike for the initial time, prior to the weekend, I exclaimed about its incredible nature," Di Giannantonio expressed to the press, including Crash.net, in the paddock following the event.
"Then, when I actually saw it in person, it was absolutely amazing."
"Having the complete set is absolutely wonderful."
"I also desired an extraordinary helmet for Vale, from my perspective."
"This year, they presented me with an incredible chance. I wanted to express my gratitude to Vale and the entire crew. Donning this helmet and these hues was a moment of great pride for me."
"I made an effort to contribute everything, to add all the finishing touches! We performed well."
Several commentators compared Di Giannantonio's fluid style at Silverstone to that of Rossi.
He responded, "Incredible, you're giving me chills!"
"Undoubtedly, my victories and top-three finishes are fewer. It's a true honor to have someone acknowledge that."
"I put everything I had into it, dedicating myself to my team and the colors we represented."
"I'm honored that someone made this remark about my ethnicity. Thank you."
In the coming year, the VR46 team is set to replace Pramac as the Ducati satellite squad receiving support directly from the factory.
This will encompass the deployment of a single GP25.
Di Giannantonio is anticipated to be the recipient, though he declined to verify this claim following Sunday's race.
Di Giannantonio clarifies Marquez's action
During their intense competition for sixth position, Di Giannantonio and Gresini team member Alex Marquez were fiercely contesting.
Di Giannantonio seemed to gesture by tapping the rear of his seat, signaling Marquez to stay behind him.
The VR46 competitor stated: “His pace was significantly reduced. My aim was to quickly pass him to catch up with the leaders.
"I managed to pass him once, and then he passed me back. During our battle, we ended up wasting nearly two seconds."
"Unfortunately, I had the speed to keep up with Marc at the lead, and possibly with Aleix and Pecco as well."
"It signified an invitation to join forces and progress together, urging to avoid foolish actions."
Marc Marquez, consistently quick on the Ducati GP23, indicated that the factory-spec motorcycles gain a greater advantage from fresh tyres.
Di Giannantonio, consistently the runner-up in the GP23 rankings throughout this season, concurred.
"He mentioned, "It's been the same story throughout the year."
"This bicycle exhibits a thrust upon exiting turns, complicating the execution of precise, close-cut maneuvers."
"The performance deteriorates further for us with the new tire. The GP24 benefits from the advantages of the new tire."
"The distinction lies between the GP23 and the GP24."
