Exclusive: Tencent Leverages AI and Gaming Strength to Expand Cloud Operations Globally
Special Report | Tencent banking on AI surge and video gaming strength to boost its cloud business internationally
The technological behemoth anticipates an increase in demand from both Chinese and international customers to utilize its services overseas, according to Tencent Cloud CEO Dowson Tong.
Tencent is considered one of the three leading cloud computing service companies in China, however, its presence in the international market is still comparatively small. As Tencent's local customers expand their businesses globally, a growing number are showing interest in utilizing the technologies of the Shenzhen-headquartered corporation internationally, says Dowson Tong, the CEO of Tencent's Cloud and Smart Industries Group.
"In recent times, there has been a surge in the use of content created by artificial intelligence, and we have made significant progress deploying this on the mainland. As our products have now reached a level of maturity, we are confident enough to introduce them to international markets," Tong shared in a special discussion with the Post on Wednesday.
The firm has noticed a significant curiosity in AI-created virtual individuals, which utilize technologies such as 3D design, a method already frequently adopted in Tencent's video game creation. A considerable number of corporate clients in Asia have already implemented these virtual individuals as news presenters, customer support agents, and salespeople, Tong states.
Several of Tencent's Chinese clients intend to utilize the firm's cloud service to serve Chinese tourists and Mandarin-speaking populations worldwide, he mentioned.
