Espargaro’s Farewell Wish: Jorge Martin’s Dream Ducati Ride Over Aprilia Succession
Jorge Martin Moving to Aprilia? Aleix Espargaro Says It Would Be "Unfair" for Ducati to Pass Him Over
"Aleix believes Jorge has earned his dream opportunity"
Aleix Espargaro was questioned about the possibility of Jorge Martin, his closest companion in the MotoGP lineup, taking over his Aprilia ride.
Espargaro revealed last weekend, during the Catalunya MotoGP in his home country, that he plans to retire at the end of this season.
Focus in the racing community quickly shifted to speculating about who would take over as the lead rider for Aprilia, given the coveted nature of the motorcycle.
If he doesn't secure a spot with the 2025 factory Ducati team, Pramac's Martin clearly stands out as a potential candidate.
Martin, along with Gresini's Marc Marquez and the present team member Enea Bastianini, are anticipating Ducati's announcement regarding their lineup of riders for 2025.
In Barcelona, Espargaro was questioned about the possibility of passing his motorcycle on to his buddy Martin for the upcoming season.
"Definitely, they have a strong team and an impressive motorcycle," he stated.
"However, it's unjust. Jorge is entitled to his dream ride, the factory Ducati."
"If he's denied access, in my view, that would be incredibly unjust."
Espargaro mentioned regarding his Aprilia serving as an alternative for Martin, "Indeed, this could be an excellent choice."
He expressed, "Observing Jorge clinch a championship or triumph in races while riding the #41 motorcycle gives me the same thrill as if I were the one winning."
Espargaro's career prospects are currently a topic of discussion.
Despite his departure from competitive racing, there is currently a rush to enlist his expertise as a test rider.
"He declined to discuss what lies ahead," he stated.
"However, I believe I won't remain in Aprilia."
Espargaro experienced a fantastic weekend in Barcelona, following the announcement of his impending retirement.
He secured the top starting spot for both events and then clinched victory in the sprint race on Saturday.
Despite missing out on a podium finish in the grand prix because of Marc Marquez's maneuver, Espargaro still earned considerable praise.
Significantly, Espargaro highlighted that the Aprilia he's departing from is a victorious motorcycle that might become the center of a competition for possession.
