Engineer on Two Wheels: Andrea Dovizioso Gears Up for Yamaha’s Next MotoGP Test in Jerez
Yamaha is gearing up for its upcoming MotoGP trial featuring Andrea Dovizioso, who's taken a hands-on 'engineer' role. "Dovi has fully embraced the initiative. His approach is highly analytical, resembling more of an engineer than a traditional rider!"
The director of the Monster Yamaha team, Massimo Meregalli, has announced that Andrea Dovizioso is scheduled for his upcoming MotoGP test in Jerez, coming this November.
If Cal Crutchlow remains unfit to race, this might mark Dovizioso's third opportunity this year to test the M1.
Dovi, who finished second in the championship three times riding for Ducati, recently made a stealthy comeback to MotoGP with a concealed run at Mugello, prior to joining Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins for an exclusive testing session at Misano the previous month.
"The Monster Yamaha team director, Massimo Meregalli, expressed to MotoGP.com their fortune in getting Dovi on board to assist them, especially since Cal Crutchlow was unable to participate due to fitness issues, making it impossible for their testing team to conduct any trials at that time."
"We conducted a somewhat clandestine trial in Mugello alongside Dovizioso, and the experiment proved successful.
"Following that, the private trial we conducted in Misano turned out to be quite successful and fruitful. His performance was impressive. He fully embraced the initiative. His approach is highly analytical. He seems to lean more towards being an engineer than a rider!"
"Thus, the initial perception has been extremely positive."
"We're scheduling another trial in Jerez for November, and considering it's highly improbable that Cal will be fit to participate, we've already approached Dovi to step in."
Crutchlow encountered setbacks after undergoing treatment for pain in his right hand, which not only sidelined him from test rides but also from scheduled wildcard appearances at Mugello and Silverstone.
Dovizioso, who endured a severe motocross crash in April, made an appearance in the MotoGP paddock at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano this weekend.
