End of an Era: Repsol and Honda to Conclude Legendary MotoGP Partnership After 2024 Season
Official Announcement: Repsol and Honda to Conclude MotoGP Title Sponsorship
Repsol's long-standing title sponsorship with Honda's factory MotoGP team is set to conclude at the end of this year.
Repsol has announced that it will cease its title sponsorship of Honda's factory MotoGP team after the 2024 season.
The Spanish oil company, which has been the primary sponsor for HRC since 1995, was moved to a less prominent position on the lower fairing in this year's redesigned livery, indicating potential changes ahead.
The conclusion of the Repsol-Honda collaboration marks the end of one of the sport's most triumphant alliances, which secured 15 riders' championships with legends such as Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, and Marc Marquez.
The team has not secured a race win since Marc Marquez’s last triumph with Honda at Misano in 2021.
The Spanish sensation switched from Honda to Gresini Ducati late last year. This move highlights the significant decline of the formerly dominant HRC squad, as Repsol Honda now sits in 11th place, the bottom position in the teams' rankings.
It's uncertain whether Repsol plans to support a competing MotoGP team, as the company has merely stated that it will "remain connected to motor racing."
Starting in 2027, MotoGP will adopt fuel made entirely from non-fossil sources, a move that Repsol seems to support.
A statement released right after the San Marino MotoGP on Sunday, which had no Repsol Honda riders participating because Joan Mir and Luca Marini were unwell, stated:
Repsol has decided not to extend its partnership with HRC in MotoGP.

'Repsol appreciates HRC's commitment and hard work throughout the many years of our collaboration.
The energy corporation plans to maintain its association with motorsports in order to keep advancing top-tier products and services.
A message from HRC stated:
Honda Racing Corporation and Repsol will conclude their partnership following the 2024 season.

Honda HRC and Repsol have formed a partnership that has become a hallmark of success in top-tier motorcycle racing. This relationship has transcended mere sponsorship, evolving into a genuine collaboration aimed at maintaining their status as leaders in Grand Prix motorcycling.
First appearing in 1995, the Repsol Honda Team quickly found success by winning the Premier Class World Championship that year. Over the next thirty years, the partnership between Honda HRC and Repsol secured 15 Premier Class World Championships, 10 Premier Class Team Championships, 183 Premier Class victories, and 455 Premier Class podium finishes.
Honda HRC extends its best wishes to Repsol for their upcoming business endeavors and athletic pursuits.
