Ducati’s Strategic Maneuver: Battling to Retain Satellite Teams Amid Yamaha’s Expansion Ambitions

Ducati acknowledges "exit clauses" yet counters to retain 2025 satellite squads

Ducati releases an update as the destiny of Pramac, VR46, and Gresini remains uncertain

Ducati is determined to maintain their trio of satellite teams through 2025.

Pramac, VR46, and Gresini are all strongly rumored to be considering leaving.

Yamaha is committed to incorporating an independent team into their lineup for the upcoming season, and they are confident in their ability to achieve this goal.

However, Ducati's sporting director, Mauro Grassilli, is actively opposing Yamaha.

"Immediately upon assuming my new role, I was instructed to maintain the current status quo, specifically keeping the eight Ducatis," Grassilli shared with Marca.

"We hold agreements with every team, extending through 2025 as well."

"Of course, like with any significant agreement, there are provisions for terminating the contract."

"We have strong assurance in maintaining our current course throughout this year and into the next."

"We're diligently striving to reach that objective."

Pramac and VR46 are approaching the end of their existing agreements with Ducati as satellite teams, however, they have options in their contracts that could prolong their partnership.

Grassilli from Ducati was questioned about whether he plans to set a deadline for the three independent teams to finalize their decisions.

"Truthfully, it's not contingent on Ducati," he remarked.

"The outcome hinges on the collaboration of the teams. My efforts are aimed at maintaining this continuity into 2025. Time will tell."

An important matter currently under negotiation between the independent teams and Ducati is said to involve the utilization of factory-spec motorcycles.

Currently, Pramac is the sole team with the advantage of a specific privilege. Within their agreement, there is an option that allows for an extension of this arrangement for an additional two years, though it has not yet been implemented.

During the Spanish MotoGP last weekend, it was reported that VR46 is seeking an upgrade from using previous year models to the most current-spec motorcycles.

Marc Marquez's request to pilot a GP25 in the upcoming season adds another layer of complexity.

Presently, Gresini operates with motorcycles from the previous season. Therefore, unless there's a shift in this practice, Marquez would have to switch to a different team.
