Ducati’s Decision Dilemma: Jorge Martin Feels Betrayed as Marquez Secures 2025 Factory Seat

Pramac competitor voices his disappointment over Ducati's change of heart regarding their 2025 rider selection
Jorge Martin expressed feeling embarrassed when Ducati reversed its initial decision to elevate him to its premier MotoGP team for 2025, opting instead for Marc Marquez.
After securing second place in the previous season's championship and leading the points table at the beginning of the 2024 season, Pramac's Martin was seen as the likely choice to team up with Francesco Bagnaia at Ducati's factory team in 2025.
Certainly, as the Italian Grand Prix approached at the end of May, Ducati announced to Martin that he had been chosen.
However, when Marquez openly rejected a factory bike at Pramac and indicated he had alternatives with different manufacturers, it triggered alarm within Ducati's CEO Claudio Domenicalli.
Ultimately, this situation resulted in Ducati retracting its initial choice to elevate Martin, opting to assign the factory seat to Marquez instead. Consequently, the present leader of the championship found himself compelled to secure a factory contract with Aprilia.
"Martin expressed in a DAZN interview that his irritation stemmed from his own situation of not moving forward, rather than the team's decision to onboard Marquez or potentially re-sign Enea Bastianini."
The overwhelming feeling stemmed from the irritation of vigorously defending my worth to someone who, in the end, remained indifferent to my efforts. This led to a profound sense of foolishness, as if my considerable investment in the situation was ultimately inconsequential.
Ultimately, it turned out that among those around me, I managed the situation the most effectively. It wasn't as challenging as it appeared to be.
"At that moment, there was a sense of joy because I believed there was another place where I was greatly cherished."
Martin mentions that the moment Ducati chose to reverse their decision and offer Marquez the seat occurred so swiftly, leaving no opportunity to ponder over it.
"It happened so swiftly and effortlessly; by that very afternoon, my perspective had shifted entirely," he elaborated.
Marquez's strategic move to secure a spot with Ducati's factory team ultimately had broader consequences for the Italian company.
For the 2025 season, it will no longer have Pramac as its affiliated team, as they have entered into an agreement with Yamaha.
Additionally, Enea Bastianini has moved to KTM for the upcoming season, and Marco Bezzecchi, who faced difficulties adjusting to the GP23 and seemed unlikely to secure a factory Ducati spot in 2024, will be teaming up with Martin at Aprilia.
