Ducati’s Dall’Igna Hints at Marquez’s Factory Bike Desire Amid 2025 Line-Up Selection Drama

Gigi Dall’Igna hints significantly at Marc Marquez's desire for a top-tier motorcycle

Gigi Dall'Igna makes a notable 'history' remark while considering a trio of candidates

Gigi Dall'Igna has shared his perspective on Ducati's decision-making process for selecting their riders for the 2025 season.

Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning champion in MotoGP and a leading figure for Ducati, secured his future with the team by signing an extended contract earlier this year.

The other rider for the 2025 MotoGP team lineup has yet to be determined.

Enea Bastianini, currently holding the position, along with Pramac's Jorge Martin and Gresini's Marc Marquez, comprise the trio on the shortlist.

The General Manager of Ducati acknowledged before the French MotoGP at Le Mans this weekend that the ultimate choice will take into account more than the outcomes of 2024.

"Dall'Igna expressed that making this choice is quite challenging."

"Frankly, we should look beyond just the 2024 elections."

"It's crucial that we take into account the entire background of our cyclists. I believe this matters significantly."

Choosing is particularly challenging since each of the three competitors is a titleholder.

"Let's wait and observe…"

Despite not having any previous engagements with Ducati prior to this year, Marquez is recognized as a MotoGP legend, boasting eight world championships to his name.

It remains uncertain if Dall’Igna will focus on the legacy within the Italian brand or the broader MotoGP context.

Marquez has emphatically stated in the past few weeks that his goal is to secure a factory-spec motorcycle for the 2025 season. This year, he's competing on a GP23 model with the Gresini team.

Following four events this season, Martin is at the forefront of the championship standings.

Bagnaia trails Martin by 17 points. Bastianini, in third place, is just five points adrift of Bagnaia. Marquez, who is in sixth position, finds himself 32 points away from the frontrunner, Martin.

Dall'Igna emphasized that his significant choice will be finalized by the time Mugello hosts the seventh race of the season on May 31.

"Indeed. It's essential to treat every participant equally," he mentioned.

"We must provide them with the opportunities to discover how to access the finest bike available, even if it's not a Ducati."

"In my opinion, the schedule appears to be practical."
