Ducati Boss Gigi Dall’Igna Weighs In on Bagnaia-Marquez Collision: A Turning Point Ahead of Misano Showdown
Gigi Dall’Igna shares his thoughts on the collision between Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez
Ducati chief comments on the accident involving Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez
Gigi Dall’Igna has given his initial comments on the clash in Aragon involving Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez.
Last weekend, MotoGP champion Bagnaia and his Ducati teammate Marquez experienced a dramatic crash during the Aragon MotoGP.
Bagnaia accused Marquez of causing the incident, but Marquez maintained that it was not done on purpose.
Ducati's general manager, Dall’Igna, expressed regret over losing valuable points, especially given the manner in which the loss occurred.
“Moreover, despite the challenges faced over the weekend, Pecco and his team managed to respond effectively. Our champion was on track to secure a podium finish, demonstrating the tenacity of someone who never quits, even after dealing with a difficult start due to a dirty starting box."
The collision with Alex Marquez subsequently led to his withdrawal from the race.
"A chapter to close and move on from quickly: we are now stepping into an important phase of our global journey, where it's essential to stay positive and concentrated. We now look forward to Misano and eagerly await the presence of our amazing fans for a Ducati-filled weekend!"
Bagnaia is set to participate in the Italian manufacturer's home event this weekend, acknowledging that he is not in peak physical condition following his crash at Aragon.
The altercation between the two Ducati racers somewhat overshadowed Marc Marquez's brilliant performance.
The eight-time titleholder secured the top starting spot, triumphed in the sprint event, and went on to clinch victory in the main race. This marked his first triumph on a Ducati bike.
Dall’Igna stated: "Despite the challenges posed by the new tarmac at the Aragon track this weekend, Marc Marquez delivered an outstanding performance. He raced with remarkable ease and self-assurance, showcasing a rare blend of pure talent and relentless determination."
"He completely controlled the entire weekend, leaving no uncertainty about the result, which was evident from the start of the free practice sessions."
"This was the perfect way to mark the comeback of a champion to his victorious form, his first win with Ducati, and following the disappointment of Sunday, it brought us a cheerful smile."
"Jorge Martin quickly realized that there was no room for anyone else to shine here. He executed an outstanding performance in both the Sprint and GP races, capitalizing on his efforts to secure two crucial second-place finishes for the world championship, especially significant following Pecco's unexpected withdrawal."
Pramac Ducati racer Martin is once more at the top of the MotoGP standings.
He leads by 23 points ahead of the second-place factory rider Bagnaia, while Martin has a 70-point lead over Marquez.
Misano, a venue that typically ranks among Bagnaia's preferred tracks, will now host back-to-back MotoGP events. However, the reigning champion is not in optimal shape following a significant crash.
