Drive Power Disruption: 2023 Nissan Ariya Faces Recall Over Software Glitch
Nissan issues a recall for the 2023 Ariya model over a software glitch that may lead to driving power failure.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting 1,188 vehicles, all of which had been subject to a previous recall due to a problem with the inverter. The current recall involves a variety of models, potentially including both front-wheel and all-wheel drives, where the inverter problem has not yet been resolved.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles in question have a current sensor in the battery junction box that could notice an inconsistency in the current ripple frequency of the engine during high-speed operation. This issue might lead to the inverter's power electronics box shutting off power unexpectedly, forcing the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode without prior notice.

Should the vehicle enter into its emergency backup operation, there's a chance that it could come to a complete stop, but there might be an opportunity to turn it back on, as per the information from the NHTSA. Motorists will be alerted by an illuminated warning light and a display notice reading "EV System Off" in the gauge display area.
The Ariya supports remote updates for all of its systems, yet, similar to the earlier inverter recall, this issue necessitates a trip to the dealership. There, technicians will check the software version on the recalled vehicle's inverters and perform an update if needed, at no cost to the owner.

Nissan intends to start sending out letters to vehicle owners on September 9, 2024, to inform them about the recall. For further details, owners can reach out to Nissan's customer support at 1-800-867-7669. The recall campaign has been assigned the identifier R24A8 by Nissan.
The Ariya made its debut in the 2023 lineup following multiple postponements. The limited quantity of automobiles sold during its inaugural year has faced numerous recalls, such as the prior inverter issue, a recall for potentially detaching steering wheels, and unexpectedly for electric vehicles, a recall due to an oil leak.
