Decade-Old Mystery: Hulkenberg Still Awaits Ferrari Snub Explanation as He Joins Audi Project
A Formula 1 driver is still looking for answers a decade after being passed over by Ferrari.
Will the reasons behind the decision from ten years ago ever be revealed?
Nico Hulkenberg remains uncertain about the reasons Ferrari passed him over more than ten years ago.
The present Haas driver, who is set to join the Audi team starting next year, lost a once-in-a-lifetime chance to race for Ferrari back in 2014.
Rather, Kimi Raikkonen made a notable comeback to Ferrari to team up with Fernando Alonso, forming a duo that promised excitement.
Among the top Ferrari executives who decided to rehire Raikkonen instead of selecting Hulkenberg was Stefano Domenicali, who currently serves as the CEO of F1.
Hulkenberg was questioned by Sued Deutsche about whether he has ever inquired Domenicali for an explanation.
"It's not time yet," he stated.
"He keeps saying, 'It's not the right time, try again later.'"
Will Hulkenberg ever get the answers he seeks?
"I can't predict the future," he stated.
Hulkenberg has previously asserted that his height prevented him from securing a prominent team position in Formula 1.
The 6-foot driver once mentioned to Motorsport that he has never received a response from teams saying, "Sorry, we rejected you because of your height."
"They likely wouldn't say it directly to me."
"I'm fairly certain that it has indeed blocked a few chances and moments to move up to a leading car."
"Problems with packaging include limited space and increased weight, which is counterproductive in this industry."
At 37 years old and now a seasoned professional, Hulkenberg has secured an incredibly thrilling opportunity.
Despite the fact that Sauber, who will retain their name next year, still have much to demonstrate in their racing performance, the support from Audi turns this into an endeavor worth monitoring closely.
