Dani Pedrosa’s Spanish MotoGP Challenge Ends Early After Hitting Damp Patch, Sets Sights on Future Races

Published

on

Dani Pedrosa encountered a wet spot on the track, leading to his premature departure from the Spanish MotoGP race.

Dodging the perilous wet spots was crucial for KTM wild-card rider Dani Pedrosa, who surged from 16th to an astonishing third place – following a penalty for Fabio Quartararo – in the Jerez MotoGP Sprint event.

The local favorite's fortune took a turn for the worse during Sunday's grand prix, as he was unexpectedly tripped up by a remaining wet spot while approaching Turn 8 on the third lap.

"Pedrosa mentioned, "I got off to a strong beginning and managed to regain a few spots," after finding himself in twelfth position.

"I had high hopes for a strong performance and steady pace. However, unexpectedly, I lost control at the front in Turn 8."

"I wasn't operating at full capacity at that moment. Perhaps it was due to the fact that missing the ideal path could lead to encountering a slick area.

"My goal was to secure a spot in the top ten. Regardless, we gained valuable insights into the capabilities of the new bike and formulated plans for its future improvement."

"We'll also remove the ambiance and the quick victory stand!"

KTM team leader Francesco Guidotti was certain about the reason behind Pedrosa's departure.

"Guidotti expressed regret that he couldn't complete the race due to encountering a wet spot on the track. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, but it's unfortunate that the weekend ended on such a note," Guidotti remarked.

Additional wild-card spots remain unannounced, but Pedrosa has reached 298 grand prix appearances. Speaking to the official MotoGP podcast before the weekend, he expressed a preference for reaching the milestone of 300 starts…

Despite the Sprint outcome not being included, Pedrosa's impressive collection of 112 MotoGP podium finishes is only two short of matching his fellow Spaniard and formidable opponent, Jorge Lorenzo. The two have consented to face off in a charity boxing event.

Pedrosa competed at the Jerez and Misano tracks as a KTM wild-card entry last season, securing a fourth-place finish and narrowly missing the podium in both events at the San Marino Grand Prix.

KTM's new test rider, Pol Espargaro, is set to make his first appearance as a wild card entry at the Mugello race in early June.
