Crucial Misano Test: Luca Marini and Repsol Honda Gear Up for Major MotoGP Upgrades
Luca Marini: “The upcoming Misano MotoGP test is very important”
Luca Marini: "The Misano test is pivotal since we have significant updates, and I am hopeful that the bike's performance will greatly enhance."
Repsol Honda is likely to use a comparable setup for this weekend's San Marino MotoGP, though significant modifications to the RC213V might be introduced during the Official test on Monday.
According to team manager Alberto Puig, Honda is set to make its most significant progress this year with a comprehensive set of improvements for the underperforming RC213V.
Luca Marini, who is entering the final eight races of his first season with Repsol Honda, referred to this stage as a “critical moment”.
"Each race holds significance… but perhaps the Misano test carries a bit more weight," the Italian remarked.
The Misano test is crucial for the engineers, as it will showcase all the developments, new components, and updates that have been scheduled since the season's start.
Marini, who has only earned a single point this season, mentioned that the new allowances for private testing with race riders have led to more impromptu sessions.
"The Misano test will be pivotal as we have significant updates, and I anticipate that the bike's performance will enhance substantially, rather than the minor improvements we've seen so far," he stated.
"We've made consistent progress with small steps, but now we need to take a larger leap forward."
Fellow racer Joan Mir has indicated that the RC213V will probably remain the same as it was in Aragon for the upcoming first event in Misano. However, he mentioned that new improvements from the official test might be implemented starting from the second Misano event.
He stated, "I believe the new elements that can assist us in the latter half of the race will come after the Misano event," and then added, "following the Misano test."
“Aragon and Misano will see us using the same setup… however, significant updates are planned after those races. I anticipate that these changes will help us close the gap a bit more.”
Sadly for Mir, the Misano weekend got off to a rough start when he fell ill on Thursday, forcing him to cancel all his scheduled media appearances.
Takaaki Nakagami stands as the leading Honda rider in the global championship, holding 18th place with a total of 18 points. Johann Zarco follows in 19th place with 17 points. Joan Mir is positioned 21st with 15 points, while Luca Marini is in 24th place with just 1 point.
