Chinese authorities to probe allegations of tainted goji berries

National media reveal accusations of unauthorized substances used to enhance appearance and longevity of the berries

Officials in Golmud, located in Qinghai province, and in Jingyuan county, Gansu province, announced on Monday the formation of dedicated task forces to probe into the matter.

"The findings of the probe and the management of the case will be disclosed to the public promptly," stated officials from Golmud.

"Those found guilty of the crimes will face strict penalties under the law."

The food safety board of Jingyuan released a comparable announcement.
