Christian Horner Opens Red Bull Door for Ricciardo with Ambassadorial Offer Amid F1 Departure
Christian Horner has extended an offer to Daniel Ricciardo for a fresh position to remain with Red Bull, it has been confirmed.
Christian Horner has announced that Red Bull has proposed an ambassadorial position to Daniel Ricciardo, allowing him to remain with the team after his departure from Formula 1 racing.
The management at Red Bull made the decision to have Liam Lawson take over Ricciardo's spot at their affiliate team, RB, for the last six events of the 2024 Formula 1 season. It seems the Singapore Grand Prix will be the 35-year-old Australian's last appearance in the competition.
On the F1 Nation podcast, after the announcement of the driver change, Red Bull's team leader Horner emphasized his desire for Ricciardo to stay connected with the team. He also hinted at the chance that the winner of eight grand prix races might make an unexpected comeback.
"Daniel is an exceptional individual, both in character and as a person," Horner remarked. "He has the ability to brighten any room he enters with his presence, mainly due to his contagious smile."
Despite our best efforts, a toothpaste partnership with him never materialized. However, we sincerely wish he continues to be a part of the sport, and we've openly expressed our desire for him to stay on as an ambassador for the team.
"Clearly, it's uncertain, you know, whether Liam or Checo will succeed in their tasks [chuckles]. However, we're aware of what Daniel is capable of."
"However, I believe he's aware that, given his age, he's enjoyed an impressive career filled with remarkable moments. The most repugnant experience was consuming champagne from his perspiring shoe. Yet, he embraced this unique celebration, managing to convince some notable individuals to partake in the champagne from his damp footwear."
Even though Sergio Perez has secured a fresh contract for two years, extending his tenure with Red Bull until 2025, his position within the team is still in jeopardy due to his ongoing performance issues next to teammate Max Verstappen.
In response to a question about Red Bull's perfect outcome for the upcoming season, Horner stated, "Clearly, we hope that Checo regains his momentum and returns to the high level of performance he demonstrated at the start of the year, without any alterations."
"In this industry, as we're aware, a fortnight is considered a lengthy period."
