China’s Cyberspace Chief, ByteDance CEO, and Baichuan Founder Named Among Time’s 30 AI Leaders: Navigating Censorship and Innovation
China's digital space leader and ByteDance's CEO have been recognized by Time Magazine as two of the most powerful influencers in Artificial Intelligence. The head of the CAC, Zhuang Rongwen, and ByteDance's CEO, Liang Rubo, have been named among the 30 top AI leaders, together with the founder of Baichuan, Wang Xiaochuan.
The head of China's Cyberspace Administration, Zhuang Rongwen, has been named on the Time 100 AI list for the second consecutive year. He is one of 15 individuals listed in the leaders category for his daring endeavor to apply the mainland's censorship regulations on the uncertain and evolving AI technology, without hindering homegrown innovation, as reported in the publication.
Other leading figures in AI from China include ByteDance's chairman and CEO, Liang Rubo, as well as Wang Xiaochuan, the founder of the GenAI start-up, Baichuan AI.
In recent times, ByteDance has prioritized artificial intelligence (AI) within its business operations. The company has introduced AI chatbots named Cici and Doubao, and developed an AI video generator called Jimeng. However, due to the stringent political investigation of ByteDance's TikTok in the United States, Time magazine has suggested that there is unlikely to be any easing of AI usage in broader applications.
