China Stands Firm Against EU’s EV Tariffs: State Broadcaster’s Defiant Stance Ahead of Crucial Trade Talks
China remains steadfast against EU's electric vehicle tariffs, according to state broadcaster
A social media profile linked with China's leading state TV network has expressed strong opposition to the EU's tariffs on electric vehicles.
China will stand firm and not concede any ground in its discussions with the European Union about tariffs on imports of electric vehicles, according to a statement made by a social media account linked to a state-run broadcaster on Thursday.
The emphatic declaration was released prior to scheduled discussions on September 19 which involve the trade minister, Wang Wentao, and Valdis Dombrovskis, who is the Executive Vice-President and Trade Commissioner of the European Commission.
Despite China's constant readiness to find common ground and address problems through dialogue when confronted with tension, this doesn't imply that China will compromise to alleviate the increasing strain stemming from multiple trade conflicts," stated Yuyuan Tantian, an account associated with China Central Television (CCTV), in a WeChat message.
"Even if talks progress," the report mentioned, quoting individuals familiar with the two-sided discussions, "China refuses to compromise on its primary concerns."
The conflict over electric vehicles (EVs) between the European Union and China escalated when the EU imposed temporary tariffs on Chinese manufacturers amid a probe into subsidy misuse.
