China Stands Firm Against EU’s EV Tariffs: No Concessions on Core Interests, Says State Broadcaster
China remains firm against EU's electric vehicle tariffs, according to state media
A social media profile linked to China's leading state television channel has expressed strong opposition to the EU's electric vehicle tariffs.
China is determined not to "give up any ground" during its discussions with the European Union about taxes on imported electric vehicles, according to a social media profile linked to a state broadcaster, this past Thursday.
The forceful declaration was made before the scheduled discussions on September 19 between Trade Minister Wang Wentao and Valdis Dombrovskis, the Executive Vice-President and Trade Commissioner of the European Commission.
Despite China's constant readiness to find common ground and solve problems through dialogue when faced with friction, it doesn't imply that China will yield to alleviate the mounting tension from multiple trade conflicts," penned Yuyuan Tantian, an account linked to China Central Television (CCTV), in a WeChat message.
"Even if discussions progress," it stated, referring to sources familiar with the two-party talks, "China will not compromise on its fundamental interests."
Tensions escalated in the commercial conflict between the European Union and China regarding electric vehicles when the EU imposed temporary tariffs on Chinese manufacturers amidst an investigation into unfair subsidies.
