**Charles Leclerc Triumphs in FP2 After Dramatic FP1 Crash: Ferrari Driver Tops Tight Session in Baku**
Charles Leclerc recovers from accident to lead close FP2 session
Following a crash in FP1, Charles Leclerc propels Ferrari to the forefront in FP2, reports Lewis Larkam from Baku.
Charles Leclerc bounced back from an accident in the first practice session to finish Friday's practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with the quickest time.
The Ferrari driver completed a lap on soft tires that was only 0.006 seconds faster than Red Bull's Sergio Perez, who showed promising speed as he aims to recover from his recent dip in performance.
After a turbulent first practice session where he crashed into the barriers at Turn 15, Leclerc faced more challenges in the second session, though he managed to avoid hitting the wall this time.
Lewis Hamilton, representing Mercedes, secured the third-fastest time, trailing his upcoming Ferrari colleague by just 0.066 seconds.
Carlos Sainz secured the fourth-fastest time in the second Ferrari, trailing by approximately 0.466 seconds, while Oscar Piastri from McLaren rounded out the top five.
Current championship frontrunner Max Verstappen, who topped the first practice session, finished in sixth place, trailing by half a second. The Dutch driver had a close call when he locked his brakes and went wide at Turn 5, just managing to avoid a collision with the barrier.
Lance Stroll of Aston Martin secured the seventh position, while George Russell ended up in ninth, squeezed between two Haas drivers, Nico Hulkenberg, who took eighth, and Oliver Bearman, who posted a time that placed him in the top 10.
Lando Norris, who is aiming for the championship, ended up in 17th place. His single attempt on soft tyres was hindered because he encountered a slow-moving Pierre Gasly on the fast section leading to the main straight.
Unlike Friday's turbulent initial practice session, which saw three red flags interrupt the action, FP2 proceeded without any halts, even though a number of drivers had near-misses with the barriers.
