WASHINGTON — A U.S. authorities watchdog concluded Friday that the highest two officers on the Division of Homeland Safety had been improperly appointed following a slew of hasty resignations on the federal company.

The Authorities Accountability Workplace, or GAO, discovered that the appointments of Chad Wolf, performing secretary of Homeland Safety, and Ken Cuccinelli, performing deputy secretary of Homeland Safety, didn’t comply with processes outlined within the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. Subsequently, the watchdog dominated, the appointments are invalid.

The Vacancies Reform Act permits for the momentary filling of vacant company positions that require presidential appointment and Senate affirmation.

In a press release on the heels of the GAO report, Senate Democratic chief Chuck Schumer referred to as on Wolf and Cuccinelli to “instantly step down from their unlawful roles” and urged the DHS IG to launch an investigation of each determination made throughout their tenures.
