Catastrophic Turn: Eddie Jordan Slams Red Bull’s Struggles, Verstappen ‘Carrying’ the Team Amid Wind Tunnel Woes
Dire Straits for Red Bull | Car Setup Hindering Max Verstappen
"You’re deceiving yourself, trusting a wind tunnel that’s clearly provided incorrect data."
Former Formula 1 team principal Eddie Jordan has labeled Red Bull's performance at the Italian Grand Prix as "disastrous."
Red Bull faced their most challenging weekend of the 2024 F1 season to date, with Max Verstappen managing to secure only a sixth-place finish, trailing race victor Charles Leclerc by almost 38 seconds.
Red Bull now finds itself in a precarious position at the summit of both championships, holding a slim eight-point advantage over McLaren.
With eight races left in the F1 season, Verstappen leads the drivers' championship by 62 points over Lando Norris.
During the most recent episode of the Formula for Success podcast, Jordan shared his thoughts on Red Bull's challenges and discussed the actions he would take if he were leading the team.
He questioned, "What was our initial configuration? How were we positioned when we had a 15-second lead and were comfortably ahead? What has altered? Present the improvements, because these supposed upgrades clearly haven't been effective," he clarified.
"You're deceiving yourself by putting your faith in a wind tunnel that has clearly provided incorrect results."
"Let's return to our previous position and begin again from that point. Ensure that nothing is altered until we can definitively confirm it is faster. That's my perspective on the matter. The situation is now disastrous."
Jordan thinks that Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull, has a huge task ahead to improve things in the last part of the year.
"Christian Horner faces a significant challenge, as he needs to assert strong authority and take decisive action," he mentioned.
We had all been criticizing Perez, but perhaps the car's performance is just at that level, and what Max is achieving reflects his extraordinary abilities. In my view, Max is undeniably the top driver in Formula 1 right now. Consequently, ending up in fifth, fourth, or sixth place must be extremely frustrating for him at this point.
Verstappen is 'shouldering the burden' for Red Bull
Ex-Red Bull racer Mark Webber believes the indicators have been present for a while.
Webber believes that Red Bull has often depended on Verstappen's exceptional talent to secure victories.
"It operated like a perfectly tuned engine," Webber stated. "Max has been the backbone of that team throughout this season. We've witnessed impressive performances in Barcelona, Silverstone, and Imola. Lewis Hamilton's victory at Silverstone was truly remarkable, but Max's second place was outstanding. We've seen some exceptional driving from Max."
The car, described by him in his own words, has occasionally been referred to as a monster. The situation is about making small improvements. If they make slight progress, the outcome remains uncertain. Things can shift.
